If so, this may be the opportunity for you! The Town of Bargersville, Indiana is seeking a Building Inspector to join their team.
The successful candidate will review all permit submissions for conformance with local ordinances and applicable building codes.
Will oversee inspection of all commercial and residential structures for compliance with all state and local building codes.

Responsibilities:
Conducts interior and exterior inspections; checks the structural quality and general safety of buildings; inspects plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and other systems to ensure that they meet all building codes; and gives approval of final inspection for issue of Certificate of Occupancy.
Checks building plans and inspects initial building construction, repairs, and current condition to ensure adherence to building codes, local ordinance, and zoning regulations.
Documents and reports code violations and poor compliance, including suggestions/ solutions for bringing buildings up to compliance and code.
Interprets building codes and conveys necessary information verbally and documented to a variety of residents, contractors, builders, etc.
Identifies changes in plans or construction that affects codes and communicates them to appropriate team members.
Issues violation notices, fines, and stop-work orders when building, construction, or permits are not in compliance with State and Local building codes or zoning regulations.
Keep detailed logs (inspection reports), including photographs, of all building inspections; properly enter all detailed information into department software.
Maintain and keep up to date status on all open building permits.
Perform additional tasks, when needed, as directed by the Director of Development, Town Manager, or Town Council.

Working Knowledge of State and Local Building Codes, Standards, and Ordinances.
Highly organized and detail oriented.

Must exhibit professionalism and be effective working with the public, builders, contractors, and other employees.
Skillfully convey information on a wide range of topics to a diverse target audience Working knowledge of commonly used office software, including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, as well as telephone and internet communications.
Ability to handle confidential information.
Effective prioritization and time management skills.
Strong initiative to strive for continuous accuracy, quality, and timeliness of information.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships through strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on relationship building and consistent demonstration of solid personal judgement.
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, sometimes simultaneously.
Must have and maintain a verifiable Driver's License, demonstrated safe driving record, and remain insurable through the Town's liability insurance.
Education and / or
Experience:
Preferred candidates will demonstrate strong knowledge of all phases of construction including structural, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical building components including ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications.
Preferred candidates will possess ICC B1 Residential Building Inspector certification or the ability to complete the certification within the 1st year of employment.
