Recovery Support Specialist Overview:
This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Tara Treatment Center, Inc.
Provides substance abuse services and on-site supervision for clients and is responsible for maintaining a therapeutic and safe environment.
Completes assigned tasks including assessments, psychoeducation groups and other duties within the scope of their skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities:
As a member of the treatment team, using a strength-based and trauma-informed approach, works collaboratively with the clients and other treatment team members to help support clients in their treatment and recovery.
Functions autonomously and uses appropriate judgment in problem solving of day to day, as well as crisis situations, utilizing on call clinical staff or supervisory support when appropriate.
Facilitates and helps coordinate daily routine activities during the course of the assigned shift in a way that provides consistency and support to clients to help them succeed.
This would include being knowledgeable of the daily schedule and being prepared to assist in any way.
Assists clients in understanding and complying with expectations and guidelines of the program.
Provides verbal change of shift report to oncoming staff that includes new admissions, discharges, and other relevant information to ensure consistency and continuity of care.
Consistently monitor client's attitude, behavior, and participation in scheduled activities throughout the duration of the shift.
Document all significant findings.
Oversees and accurately records client self-administration of medication per policy.
Communicates medication issues in a timely and effective manner to the nursing staff.
Obtains vital signs and breathalyzers when needed.
Performs personal and belongings searches.
Facilitates psychoeducation and other recovery related groups as assigned.
Supervises visitation of clients and visitors during weekend family program.
Monitor daily chore completion and work collaboratively with clients to strengthen their skills and ensure proper housekeeping standards are met.
Complete paperwork requirements and maintain quality, up to date clinical records.
Conduct and document random rounds no less than hourly throughout shift and address issues as needed.
Provides transportation for clients to scheduled appointments and any other outside activities.
Answering the telephone and completing phone intake assessment.
Participate in continuing professional development.
Conduct confidential, quality assessments to determine the individuals' need for alcohol and drug services and evaluate their suitability for participation in a specific level of care.
Consult with supervisor or other members of the multi-disciplinary treatment team as needed.
Participate in all assigned meetings, staff development, and training as required.
Remain in compliance with internal and external policies, procedures, regulations, and standards.
Minimum Skills and
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree is required.
Preferably in social work, counseling or a related field.
Minimum of 1 year experience working in the field of addiction.
Current CPR certification preferred.
A valid Indiana driver's license.
Scheduling flexibility, holiday and weekends is required.
Strong interpersonal and engagement skills.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Competencies:
Ability to establish rapport.
Ability to systematically gather data.
Screen for danger to self or others by completing the pre-screening assessment and the suicide risk screening tool.
Ability to screen for co-occurring mental health issues.
Demonstrate adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
Knowledge of 12-step programs and recovery support systems.
Ability to facilitate a psychoeducation group effectively.
Ability to oversee and accurately document self-administered medications.
Ability to accurately obtain vital signs.
Ability to collect a urine drug screen specimen and complete lab requisition form.
Understanding of de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
